Firm Technology Design Essays

Firm Technology Design Essays Firm Technology Design Essay Firm Technology Design Essay Firm Technology Design Name: Establishment: Firm Technology Design : Presentation The innovation configuration process is a significant part o any firm’s activities since great frameworks increment the company’s profitability and yield. Most productive firms plan new frameworks consistently to support their yield at significant levels. Trevallion and Strazzari state, â€Å"Design is the aftereffect of a distinguished need or an apparent opportunity† (2003, p. 18). A compelling structure process is orderly and efficient and follows unmistakably delineated advances. In a disentangled structure process, the means are explore, plan, deliver and assess. In any case, a plan procedure is more confounded and mind boggling including a larger number of steps than the recently referenced four. The subject organization is an insurance agency known as Carter and Company Insurance. Carter and Company fundamentally manage the arrangement of vehicle, home, business, life and medical coverage. The firm’s has its home office in Luling, Texas and serves customers from eighteen states in the US. Carter and Company are planning another framework that will deal with their cases preparing. The new frameworks are required to affix the preparing of protection claims and in doing so expand the trust of the customers in the organization. The accompanying inquiries will examine the firm’s innovation configuration procedure and investigate all the components that the firm needs to consider alongside the means that should be followed. Survey of Questions Carter and Company are an insurance agency that gives spread to the two homes and business undertakings. The most huge procedure for Carter and Company is claims handling. Cases handling is an insurer’s satisfaction of their obligation to get, examine and follow up on any cases recorded by their customers. The execution of the procedure includes activity by the managerial and client assistance layers in which the case is evaluated, explored and afterward paid or denied (Claims preparing). The preparing of cases is an essential advance of the installment procedure since defers bring down the client’s trust in the organization. For Carter and Company, the cases handling frameworks ought to be redesignd to be supplanted with a framework that is exceptional and fit for preparing claims progressively. The new frameworks ought to likewise limit mistakes in the preparing of cases and forestall circumstances where legitimate cases are denied and customers with unjustified cases get settlement. An upgraded framework could support Carter and Company pull in new customers and decrease misfortunes brought about by blunders in claims preparing. The present circumstance in the business world implies that a refreshed framework should be available through compact gadgets, for example, mobile phones and tablets. Customers ought to have the option to record asserts remotely through various types of gadgets and get normal input from the organization. This can be executed through utilizing a cell phone application, application, which permits the client to document a case and check the claim’s progress through the application. For this to be conceivable, the firm’s frameworks ought to be fit for handling claims continuously as they are gotten. Utilizing an application to manage claims preparing would be especially useful for Carter and Company in light of the fact that the firm’s customer base are from eighteen unique states. The way toward surveying claims includes an all areas of the firm’s chain of importance and ongoing handling could help claims from customers who live far away from Texas have get t heir administration quicker. Carter and Company mostly offers protection administrations to people, home organizations and oil organizations. The firm has working organizations with nearby banks in Texas, oil organizations inside the locale and the relationship of vitality administration organizations. These accomplices can't give any immediate help with the firm’s journey to update its cases preparing frameworks. In any case, the bank could give Carter and Co. with credits at financed rates to finance the frameworks upgrade. Carter and Co. could frame an association with an IT organization so the organization can redesign the framework, create programming for them and give consultancy administrations. In this association, Carter and Co. could guarantee the It organization at a limited rate while the organization additionally offered its types of assistance at limited rates. The frameworks redesign allows Carter and Co to reinforce bonds in its client/provider relationship. The frameworks change makes an open door where the esteemed clients can voice their feelings and illuminate the firm on the inadequacies regarding the old framework. There is additionally a chance to propose any options that they feel could improve the framework fit to serving them. Another open door made by the frameworks control is improved client care. The presentation of constant examination of cases allows the organization to give clients better criticism through informing administrations and email. This could help fortify the relationship that Carter and Co has with its clients While picking a key authoritative structure, the firm should consider different variables. Locale is one of the primary variables impacting the authoritative structure since Carter and Company need to search for a structure that guarantees customers in each of the eighteen states are very much secured. Henry Mintzberg thought of five auxiliary arrangements basic structure, machine administration, proficient organization, divisional structure and adhocracy. Divisional structure is where the association is made out of various divisions, each with its own hierarchical structure (Aquinas, 2008). Carter and Company could utilize this structure by isolating their activities by state and having their workplaces in each state work with some level of self-rule. Cases recorded would then be prepared by state or locale. The workplace in Texas would then have an oversight job by settling on the key choices that influence the firm in general or stepping in at whatever point a particular division neglects to work productively. Carter and Co’s serious methodology is to widen its scope of administrations and begin giving a more extensive scope of spreads. The firm intends to utilize the workplaces it has in different states to extend the scope of administrations. This technique has three primary targets. The first is to hold the current piece of the overall industry that it has. The firm will accomplish this by continuing the administrations that it directly gives and in this manner keep the entirety of the present customers. The subsequent objective is to catch new piece of the pie. Carter and Co. plan to do this by giving bringing new protection spread into its bunch. The new protection spreads will pull in new clients who may then be attracted to the administrations that the organization as of now gives. The last objective in the company’s promoting methodology is to increase an upper hand over its opponents. This can be accomplished by executing the initial two targets, which will empower t he organization to give a wide scope of administrations and pull in a bigger number of customers. The execution of the new frameworks is a pivotal advance in the company’s promoting methodology. Right off the bat, the new frameworks will empower the firm to process guarantees quicker and this will be pivotal when Carter and Co. begin managing a bigger number of clients. With the present framework, the firm would be not able to support such countless clients since cases would be handled too gradually. The frameworks upgrade additionally gives Carter and Co. a bit of leeway over its opponents since it will empower the firm to offer its types of assistance all the more proficiently. This could give the organization a decent notoriety and maybe even assist it with drawing in more clients as the acclaim spreads through informal. The greatest procedure in Carter and Co’s tasks is the handling of the protection claims. For motivations behind speed and proficiency, Carter and Co. separate the cases preparing procedure to three activities, each with its sub-forms. The tasks are then passed on to various representatives and division to be dealt with. The primary activity is the check of the case. After the cases are gotten, they are taken through a procedure to confirm them and see whether they are genuine cases. The examination of the claim’s qualification and their approval are two procedures that must be done physically. The cases are then gone into a preparing line. Here the procedure gets computerized as the cases are checked for any issues that should be sifted through. On the off chance that an issue is discovered, the division supervisor must be counseled to resolve it. On the off chance that no issues are discovered, the cases are moved onto the last advance, the installment step. At this p rogression, the measure of cash to be paid for each guarantee is checked and the check is sent to the petitioner. This progression in the process is completely robotized. Cases being handled are isolated into classes dependent on the kind of protection spread include. Separate divisions manage claims from various spreads. Representatives are hence allocated to manage claims relying upon their ability and division. An examination office exists to investigate claims that have sketchy qualification while the approval is completed by the individual office heads. The upgrading of the frameworks hopes to ensure that lone key pieces of the procedure are manual. This would be the examination procedure and the approval procedure. The remainder of the procedure ought to in a perfect world be computerized to help accelerate the fulfillment of the procedure. Computerization could help decline the quantity of levels in the association by evacuating one of the base layers engaged with the preparing of cases. The frameworks update would leave the entire procedure with just two manual strides with the remainder of I took care of by PCs. Administrative progressive system alludes to the various degrees of the executives fo

Meal Preparation Tips for Teachers

Meal Preparation Tips for Teachers Meghan, Teacher Vision's Marketing Associate, explains why meal preparation is crucial to success in the classroom by helping to promote a healthy lifestyle.   Have you ever gone to bed confident that you’ll pack a healthy lunch in the morning before you leave for the day, only to realize the next day that you’re running late? This forces you to rush out the door without packing anything substantial. We’ve all been there. When it’s finally time to eat lunch and you’re looking for a pick me up to get you through the rest of the day, all you have is a thrown together mixture of unfulfilling snacks. It’s no wonder you’re exhausted by the end of the school day- you didn’t fuel your body correctly. Certified wellness and emotional eating coach Debra Bennett says, “It is common for busy people to compensate by snacking vs. eating healthy, balanced meals - often snacking on high carbohydrate and sugary foods and caffeine.” These types of food give you a short burst of energy and lead to a crash. The Benefits of Meal Preparation People meal prep for different reasons, some of which include promoting clean eating, portion control, or simply saving money. We know that as a teacher your time, money, and health all matter. As caregivers, your work is both physical and emotional. This means That it requires a little extra energy, which makes your health that much more of a priority. Additionally, teacher salaries make budgeting all the more important.  When you spend a little bit of time planning ahead, you are more relaxed and focused on your role. For additional resources on how to get ready for the week, check out: What To Do Sunday To Feel Ready To Teach Monday It’s true, teachers do not have much time for themselves, so it is important to optimize your free time. Healthier eating starts with planning, and this planning prevents the urge for unhealthy temptations. You might only have limited time to yourself all day, and you don’t want to be spending that time stressing about what to eat. If you are unable to leave your classroom, or have other obligations during lunch (i.e., lunch duty or prepping for your next class), packing a healthy lunch you can eat quickly is important.  Don’t leave fueling your body last on your to-do list. We talked to nutritionists and teachers to learn quick tips and tricks so that you never have to stress about lunch again. Skipping Meals Leads To Over-Indulgence Between dealing with student’s lunch/recess issues, grading papers, and making copies for the rest of the day, you’re lucky to get any time to yourself during a lunch period. Eating bites of lunch amongst the craziness can be challenging, but it is actually more important than ever to make sure you aren’t skipping meals even if you don’t realize you’re hungry. Hailey Crean, MS, RD, CDE, CSOWM, explains, “The important thing to remember here is that not all meals have to be perfect and if you’re truly in a rush with few options, eating something is going to be better than skipping altogether. Taking the time to stop and eat can be hard when other things seem more pressing but it will almost always catch up to you in terms of productivity later. ” While it is true that eating something is more important than not eating at all, the quality of the food you’re eating also matters. This is why packing snacks ahead of time to avoid falling into pitfalls that present themselves throughout the day is vital. Not getting enough sleep leads to sugar cravings.  Tara  Dusko, a TeacherVision Advisory board member, and 3rd-grade teacher knows exactly how difficult that can be. She shares that, ”eating healthy is a challenge because even if I pack a healthy lunch, there are always unhealthy snacks in the teacher's lounge. It's hard to resist grabbing a doughnut, cupcake, or piece of chocolate to get you through the afternoon.” Although delicious, refined carbs and artificial sugar affect your energy and focus, so while they’re okay in moderation (it’s okay to indulge once and a while!) it is best to limit them when possible. In addition, sugar makes you crave more sugar, so the more you can limit it the lower the chances of future indulgence will be. Nutritionist tip: If you are looking for a way to fuel your body and don’t have time to sit down and eat, look to snacks like apple slices, pears, banana with peanut butter (if your school allows it), hummus with bell pepper, cottage cheese, a handful of almonds, Perfect Bars, herbal tea. How Important Is Lunch? While it still stands that breakfast is a very important meal, the thought of eating at 6 am could be enough to make you nauseous. If that’s the case, lunch becomes incredibly important. There are different theories, but some experts say that lunch is more important if your goal is to reduce body weight and increase overall health. If you’re eating small meals throughout the day and then a huge meal at dinner, you are lacking the energy you need while awake, and your body does not have time to metabolize and burn off those calories before going to sleep. Registered Dietician Diana Richards says, “Digestive fire is highest between 10 am to 2 pm, so you can more efficiently burn through that nutritional uptake. Have a larger protein source and more calories at lunch, then smaller afternoon snack and dinner. With the right combo of macronutrients, you'll restore your energy, even have more energy, for the afternoon.“ Nutritionist tip: Meal prep a healthy meal for dinner the night before and bring leftovers for lunch the next day. Portioning food out for the next day when cleaning dinner up makes it quick and easy to grab when you’re headed out the door in the morning. Set Yourself Up For Success Preparation is the name of the game. One tactic that many teachers rely on is getting all of their meal prepping done on the weekend. Sunday food prep is great because you likely have the extra time to go to the grocery store and cook. Additionally, buying in bulk saves you money in the long run. However, this is not always realistic. Being a mother of two, Tara encounters busy weekends with no time to meal prep on Saturday or Sunday. She says, ”During those weeks, I make a lot of slow cooker meals. I also make freezer meals over the summer and during school breaks. I pull those out when I don't have meals prepared, too. These posts have recipes for some of my favorite slow cooker meals and freezer meals.“ Weekend Meal Prep If you are able to meal prep on the weekend, you may think that you’ll be eating the same meal for days on end. However, just because you are buying and cooking in bulk doesn’t mean that you have to eat the same tired meal every day. Buying versatile ingredients and adding different spices can make all of the difference in the world. Don't Know Where To Start? A good place to start is by keeping a list in the notes section of your phone or in a google doc, where you keep track of meals that you’ve made and have enjoyed eating the next day as well as meals that you’d like to try. If you’re lacking inspiration or do not have a list of go-to meals already, check out websites and apps for ideas. Downloading the Tasty app was one of the best things I ever did when it comes to elevating my meal prep diversity. In addition to apps like Tasty, there are websites/apps like Mealz, Delish, and Pinterest that will make you feel like a professional chef. Pro tips: Use mason jars for salads so that the lettuce doesn’t get soggy. For protein-packed lunches that don’t need to be heated, make quinoa based summer salads. Or, if you want to feel fancy, throw together a mini cheese board for lunch. You can also make your own versions of Starbuck’s Protein Bistro Boxes. Don't Have Time to Prepare at All? If preparation is still an issue for you and you are able to leave during your lunch period, Debra Bennett made some suggestions for picking up food when you don’t have time: Starbucks has egg white bites, prepared salads, and oatmeal that are all nutritious choices. Additionally, they often carry Siggi’s yogurt in their beverage case, a lower sugar yogurt option. Dunkin’ Donuts has veggie and egg white wraps which are always good options. Picking up a fresh boxed soup at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s (like tomato roasted red bell pepper) and adding either fresh or frozen veggies like broccoli or zucchini makes for an easy lunch or dinner. If you have a pizza habit, incorporate more salads when possible by modifying pizza portions and limiting it to one slice. Make sure the rest of your meal is a salad or another vegetable. If you love sweets and are in a nut friendly classroom, glam up a PB J with fiber-rich bread like Ezekiel. You can also use any nut butter of your choice and a tasty specialty jam Teachers are constantly being looked up to by their students and therefore have the opportunity to set an example of healthy eating. Don’t let malnutrition stop you from being on your A game. How do you stay healthy during the week? Share with us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. This is explained through the experiments done by Pavlov. He associated the presentation of food to the dog with another stimulus as sound of the bell. After giving some trials in which bell preceded the presentation of food, the dog started salivating at the sound of the bell. The acquisition of a conditioned responses gradual and becomes stronger with repeated trials. 2) Operant Conditioning: Operant conditioning is another approach to the study of associative learning. The term coined by B.F. Skinner means that the likelihood of behaviour depends on the significance of the event immediately following it to person showing the behaviour. if the Event following the behavior is positively reinforcing or rewarding, than it will reoccur. If it is not reinforced or is punished then it is less likely to recur and eventually stops completely a process known as ‘extinction’. It is a powerful method for teaching new behaviour patterns both to humans and animals. The basics of operant conditioning are reinforcement and punishment. In children the most common form of positive reinforcement is social; children are likely to repeat behaviour which gives pleasure. i) Reinforcement: When aShow MoreRelatedStudy Habits854 Words   |  4 Pageslevel of students in school becomes higher, their study habits differ from time to time. Wuthering Heights Essays (2196 words) - British Films,

Wuthering Heights Emily Jane Bronte was born on July 30, 1818 in Thorton, Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of Patrick, an Anglican clergyman, and Maria Bronte. Emily lived with her parents, sisters Charlotte and Anne, and brother Patrick Branwell. Two other sisters, Elizabeth and Maria, died while Emily was very young. Mrs. Bronte also died while Emily was young, in 1821. Mr. Bronte and an aunt, Elizabeth Branwell, raised the surviving children. They were educated at home and spent much of their time reading and writing. Charlotte and Emily spent a year at the Clergy Daughters' School in Lancashire. Charlotte received a job teaching at Miss Wooler's school in Roe Head in 1835 and Emily went with her as a student. However, Emily became homesick and returned to the moors of her hometown, Haworth, after only three months of schooling. In 1838 Emily taught in a school near Halifax but became exhausted after six months and resigned. Emily and Charlotte planned to open a girl's school in Haworth and went to Brussels to learn foreign language and school management in 1842. Emily's reserved personality seemed to fit into the style of city life but she yearned to return to the moors. Her quiet but passionate nature was more easily understood by the people of Brussels than her sister's somewhat restrained temperament. She finally returned to England when her aunt died. In 1845 Charlotte, Emily, and Anne jointly published a volume of poetry, Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell. The poems by Emily, Ellis, received the best reviews. Emily had finished her only novel, Wuthering Heights, by the summer of 1847. It was published in December, after the release of Charlotte's hugely popular Jane Eyre. Emily's novel never received the attention that Jane Eyre received. It was considered hostile, savage, animal like, and poorly developed. Now Wuthering Heights is considered one of the greatest novels in the English language. Soon after the publication of the novel Emily became ill, and her health failed rapidly. She complained of difficulty of breathing. Emily Bronte died of tuberculosis in Haworth on December 19, 1848. Wuthering Heights is a powerful tale of passion, hatred, and revenge. It deals with two families, the Earnshaws and Lintons, living in the moorlands of England. Mr. and Mrs. Earnshaw have a son, Hindley, and a daughter, Catherine. One day while in Liverpool Mr. Earnshaw picks up a homeless boy and brings him home with him, to Wuthering Heights. The abandoned boy is named Heathcliff. Heathcliff becomes a close friend of Catherine's but as he becomes Mr. Earnshaw's favorite Hindley becomes jealous and begins to abuse him. Hindley eventually goes to college, leaving Catherine and Heathcliff at Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff falls deeply in love with Catherine, and she develops feelings towards him as well. However, one day while the two were visiting the nearby Thrushcross Grange Catherine was bitten by a dog. Her ankle is injured so badly that she is forced to spend the next five weeks at the Grange with the Lintons. She spends most of her time with the Linton's children, Edgar and Isabella, and becomes more dignified and refined, much like the Lintons. She returns to Wuthering Heights shortly before Mr. Earnshaw's death. Hindley returns with a wife, Frances, and being the closest male relative, inherits the land. The other possessions are split between Hindley and Catherine. As Edgar becomes more a part of Catherine's life she forgets about the unrefined, uneducated Heathcliff. When Edgar proposes to her Heathcliff is heartbroken. He runs away and is not seen again for several years. Hindley and Frances have a son, Hareton, but she dies shortly after his birth. Edgar and Catherine are married and she moves in with the Lintons. Heathcliff unexpectedly returns and is surprisingly educated and refined. Isabella falls in love with the improved Heathcliff and they elope, later returning to live at Wuthering Heights. He marries her in a scheme to control the property of both the Lintons and the Earnshaws. Catherine dies giving birth to a daughter, also named Catherine. Her death affects both Edgar and Heathcliff, who both love her. Both of the men are haunted by thoughts and memories of her. Isabella can no longer stand Heathcliff's mourning and runs off to London, where she gives birth to their son, Linton Heathcliff. Hindley dies and all of his property is mortgaged to Heathcliff, instead of being passed down to Hareton. Heathcliff now controls the Earnshaw estate. When Isabella dies Edgar goes to London to bring

Top 10 Confused Words in English [I-L] Top 10 Confused Words in English [I-L] Top 10 Confused Words in English [I-L] By Maeve Maddox Seven of these ten commonly confused word pairs beginning with the letters I-L are frequent enough to have earned one or more full posts at Daily Writing Tips. You’ll find links at the end of each item. 1. illicit / elicit Illicit is an adjective meaning, â€Å"not allowed by law or social conventions.† Elicit is a verb meaning, â€Å"to draw out a reply or reaction.† 2. imply / infer Increasing numbers of speakers ignore the distinction between these words, but it remains a useful one. Imply is â€Å"to suggest indirectly.† Infer is â€Å"to draw a conclusion.† Related posts: Confused Words #6: Imply vs. Infer Imply and Infer 3. it’s / its Despite the hundreds, perhaps thousands of explanations to be found on the Web regarding the difference between these two spellings, the mistake of writing it’s for its remains the most common written error of them all. It’s is the contracted form of the words it and is. Its is the possessive adjective that corresponds to his and their: Max has dyed his hair red. The children have passed their exams. The cat has paint on its tail. Related posts: It’s or Its? The Truth About â€Å"It’s† 4. jibe / jive The most common error with this pair is to use jive, a word that derives from musical terminology, in a context that calls for jibe, a word that means, â€Å"to agree with.† Here are two correct uses of the word jibe: His interpretation of the law doesn’t jibe with mine. Your explanation does not jibe with the facts. Related posts: Gibe, Gybe, Jibe, and Jive 5. loath / loathe Loath (pronounced with an unvoiced th like the one in thin) is an adjective originally meaning hostile, angry, or spiteful. In modern usage it means averse, disinclined, reluctant, or unwilling, as in this New York Times headline:† Inquiry Goes To Committee That May Be Loath to Act.† A variant spelling is loth. Loathe (pronounced with a voiced th like the one in this) is a verb meaning â€Å"to feel strong aversion for† as in the title of a TED topic: â€Å"Why Do So Many People Loathe Their Jobs?† Note: TED is a nonprofit organization that sponsors and broadcasts lectures on various social issues. The name is an acronym formed from the words Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Related posts: Verb Mistakes #5: Loathe â€Å"Loath† and â€Å"Loathe† 6. loose / lose Loose can function as a verb meaning â€Å"to free† or â€Å"to release,† but its most common use is as an adjective to mean, â€Å"not tight.† Lose is a verb that has various connotations of loss. For example, a person may lose his way in the woods. The past tense of lose is lost. Related posts: Confused Words #3: Lose, Loose, Loss Loose or Lose? 7. latter / ladder As a noun, latter means â€Å"the person or thing mentioned second of two.† A ladder is an appliance of wood or other material, consisting of a series of bars/rungs/steps/ fixed between two supports. Speakers who do not distinguish clearly between the sounds of t and d may misspell latter as ladder, as in these examples: INCORRECT: There are two modes to constructed play: Casual, and Ranked. Some people choose the former, some people choose the ladder.- Gaming site. CORRECT : There are two modes to constructed play: Casual, and Ranked. Some people choose the former, some people choose the latter. INCORRECT: Many police officers know that much of their job is to collect revenue. It’s now apparent, that when given the option to conduct extortion or not, they will choose the ladder.- A talk radio website. CORRECT : Many police officers know that much of their job is to collect revenue. It’s now apparent, that when given the option to conduct extortion or not, they will choose the latter. Related post: â€Å"Latter,† not â€Å"Ladder† 8. lightening / lightning The word lightening comes from the verb to lighten, â€Å"to make lighter.† An artist can lighten a color. A kindly neighbor can lighten someone’s loneliness. A driver can lighten a load. Dark hair may be lightened by the sun. Lightning is â€Å"the visible discharge of electricity between one group of clouds and another, or between the clouds and the ground.† 9. libel / slander Libel functions as a noun and as a verb. The noun is usually used to mean â€Å"a  published statement damaging to the reputation of a person.† The verb means, â€Å"to defame or discredit by the circulation of libelous statements.† As a noun, slander denotes â€Å"the utterance or dissemination of false statements or reports concerning a person in order to defame or injure that person.† As a verb, slander is â€Å"to spread slanderous reports about.† The legal difference between the two is that libel is written and slander is spoken or conveyed in some other non-written manner. Another error with libel is that the noun (libel) is sometimes used incorrectly in place of the adjective liable, as in this example from a Canadian government site: INCORRECT: The landlord testifies that the tenant became libel for the rent from December 01, 2008 and that he allowed her to move in on November 19, 2008 until December 01 without payment of rent. CORRECT : The landlord testifies that the tenant became liable for the rent from December 01, 2008 and that he allowed her to move in on November 19, 2008 until December 01 without payment of rent. Liable is an adjective that means, â€Å"bound or obliged by law or in accordance with a rule or convention.† Related post: Is it Libel, or is it Slander? 10. lay / lie Some would argue that insisting on the distinction between the verbs lay (to put or to place) and lie (to recline) is beating a dead horse. I continue to insist on the difference because I believe that speakers who are bright enough to want to master a standard form of English are bright enough to learn the difference between these two verbs. Tell your children to lay their homework on the table. Tell your dog he may lie under it. Lay is transitive (has an object). Lie is intransitive (has no object). Related posts: Verb Mistakes #9: Past Tense forms of Lay and Lie Lay vs. Lie: What’s So Hard? Mixing up â€Å"lay† and â€Å"lie† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Index of Qualitative Variation (IQV)

Index of Qualitative Variation (IQV) The index of qualitative variation (IQV) is a measure of variability for nominal variables, such as race, ethnicity, or gender. These kinds of variables divide people by categories that cannot be ranked, unlike a variable measure of income or education, which can be measured from high to low. The IQV is based on the ratio of the total number of differences in the distribution to the maximum number of possible differences in the same distribution. Overview Let’s say, for instance, that we are interested in looking at the racial diversity of a city over time in order to see if its population has gotten more or less racially diverse, or if it has stayed the same. The index of qualitative variation is a good tool for measuring this. The index of qualitative variation can vary from 0.00 to 1.00. When all of the cases of the distribution are in one category, there is no diversity or variation, and the IQV is 0.00. For instance, if we have a distribution that consists entirely of Hispanic people, there is no diversity among the variable of race, and our IQV would be 0.00. In contrast, when the cases in a distribution are distributed evenly across the categories, there is maximum variation or diversity, and the IQV is 1.00. For example, if we have a distribution of 100 people and 25 are Hispanic, 25 are white, 25 are Black, and 25 are Asian, our distribution is perfectly diverse and our IQV is 1.00. So, if we are looking at the changing racial diversity of a city over time, we can examine the IQV year-over-year to see how diversity has evolved. Doing this will allow us to see when diversity was at its highest and at its lowest. The IQV can also be expressed as a percentage rather than a proportion. To find the percentage, simply multiply the IQV by 100. If the IQV is expressed as a percentage, it would reflect the percentage of differences relative to the maximum possible differences in each distribution. For example, if we were looking at the racial/ethnic distribution in Arizona and had an IQV of 0.85, we would multiply it by 100 to get 85 percent. This means that the number of racial/ethnic differences is 85 percent of the maximum possible differences. How To Calculate The IQV The formula for the index of qualitative variation is: IQV K(1002 – ÃŽ £Pct2) / 1002(K – 1) Where K  is the number of categories in the distribution and ÃŽ £Pct2 is the sum of all squared percentages in the distribution. There are four steps, then, to calculating the IQV: Construct a percentage distribution.Square the percentages for each category.Sum the squared percentages.Calculate the IQV using the formula above. Modren and tradition family Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Modren and tradition family - Research Paper Example Since I had a question in mind I was somehow sunken in thought was not very keen to notice the old man approach me. He greeted me casually. Without hesitating, he went ahead to answer my question even before I presented it to him, he seemed to have read my mind. He said, â€Å"I missed something when I was a child. I missed the childhood games. My son, during our times we played with small glass bells in the street, hiding, and swimming in the pool†, He paused, I wanted to intervene but he proceeded, â€Å"Our grandfathers dug wells by their bare hands using crude tools, and it was pure water and stemmed from under the ground. We were excited when we played in front of our mothers. Our mothers cleaned our clothes and utensils using it. We also played with neighbors’ children after we had finished studying holy Quran. There were no schools in those days. The days were awesome, those days are gone my son†. When he had finished his speech, he took a deep breath. Act ually, I liked his speech, and I admired the days. The conversation looked more like an imagination despite being the naked truth. When I reported home that night, I talked with my mother about the old man that I had met in the beach. She told me, â€Å"listen my daughter, everyone lives in their generation. If you went back to those old days, you would loathe them and admire to come back to your days, the old were characterized by difficulties that could only be handled by them that lived at that time†. She went on to mention that there was no electricity, cars, planes, and electronic machines among other things. Just like the old man, she reiterated that formal education was nonexistent. I agreed with her that if it were not for education today life would be very boring. The industries were undeveloped and the jobs done were manual in most occasions, they revolved around farming, fishing, hunting and gathering, grazing cattle, and delivering water to houses. She noted sever al benefits that emanated from the traditional way of life. People used to live in communities, the concept of capitalism was nonexistent, and the families had no privacy. The responsibilities were clearly defined; the women cooked food, took care of the children, brought water from the spring, cleaned stuff, and served their husband’s family without any objection. The community defined individual rights, most women and men had no rights in those days because the man’s father was the ultimate decision maker even if the man got married. The old man and my mother had similar points of view as well as differences; I realized that they had different opinions between traditional and modern family setups. This arouses a desire in me to focus about traditional and modern family systems in my country. Although some people believe that the traditional family is the best than modern family structure, both traditional and modern family has positive and negative implications in te rms of their lifestyle, education and the rules governing them. The traditional and modern family setups are different in the way individuals used to reside and the way it is done today. Traditionally an extended family lived in one big house. It consisted of the grandfather, parents, uncles, aunts, and their children. Both the male and female children occupied the same bedroom, likewise the parents would share bedrooms and

Unions and Company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Unions and Company - Essay Example Unions and Company The paper also details the outcome of the company's responses in those cases. The issue involved that is taken for discussion is the provision of food and services to the employees and whether such provision can be construed as one of the terms and conditions of employment. The cases taken up relate to the closure of the cafeteria meant for the workers by WMATA and the refusal to negotiate on the increase in the prices of food and beverages by Ford Motor Co. In both the cases the companies concerned had taken a stand that the provision of food and other services to the employees within the work premises is NOT one of the terms and conditions of employment. But the Unions argued that the issue necessarily forms part of the conditions of employment and hence the Unions have to be consulted before any decision could be taken on the issues. The relevant cases are discussed below: The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is regulated by Virginia, Maryland and District of Columbia Authorities who formed a lengthy compact for the entity. WMATA negotiated a 'collective bargaining agreement' with the trade union in which the employees had membership. WMATA wanted to close down a cafeteria to provide additional space for its legal department. The Authority argued that ‘closing the cafeteria’ is an absolute business decision and there was no need to get the Union agreed for this. Moreover there were other cafeterias available in the local vicinity. But the Union argued that "According to the compact, a "labor dispute" is defined as "any controversy concerning wages, salaries, hours, working conditions, or benefits," and must be resolved through collective bargaining" and hence the closing need to be negotiated. The Union took the issue to an arbitrator who decided in favor of the Union. Against the arbitration award the Authority filed a suit in the Federal Court. The Federal court confirmed the view taken by the arbitration. On an appeal by the WMATA against the decision of the Federal Court, the US Court of Appeals 4th Circuit gave its ruling. Decision of the Court of Appeal: Citing a 1979 decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Ford Motor Co. where it decided the food service is a condition of employment, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed the decision of the lower court and ruled in favor of the Union. 2. Ford Motor Co (Chicago Stamping Plant) v National Labor Relations Board Et Al3 Facts of the Case: Ford Motor Co was providing its employees with in-plant cafeteria and vending machine service through independent caterer with an express right to review the quality, quantity and price of the food being offered. The company wanted to increase the price of the food items and notified the Union accordingly. When the Union wanted to negotiate the prices the company refused to bargain. The Union filed a charge of unfair labor practice with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) The NLRB citing the provisions of Section 8 (a) (5) and 8 (d) of the National Labor Relations Act, considered the provision of in-plant foods and services are 'other terms and conditions of

Three Varieties of Bathtubs :: Jeffrey Harrison Literature Essays

Three Varieties of Bathtubs Past, present and future are the simplest ways in which humans perceive time. We recognize the past through our memories and our recall of events that already have happened. When looking into the future, we can only look at where we are now in order to guess what our fate might be in the future. Or else we only have our dreams and goals that we look forward to one- day accomplishing. When viewing the present, however, everything around us is not an idea or memory in our head, but a reality that we use our senses to see, feel, touch, smell or hear. We are using our body's functions to live and take in what is around us at the moment. When "living in the present" (as one would say to someone who is constantly aware of the moment and what is around them), there is less chance to miss what's in front of us rather than always looking behind or too far ahead. Jeffrey Harrison, in his poem "Bathtubs, Three Varieties," seems to feel the same way about living in the here and the now. The three varieties of bathtubs Harrison writes about were separated into three stanzas according to their design and their purpose now, in the present. In the first stanza of the poem Harrison describes an old- fashioned bathtub, one that was raised off the floor by porcelain animal paws that extended off each corner. The particular bathtubs that he was describing were no longer serving their intended purpose, but rather were outside in a yard like an old car that was once one's hotrod, now scrap metal. These bathtubs, retired from their original purpose, now just sat through the seasons and let outside forces such as the weather and changes in other living things like the walnut tree carry on without regard to their presence. In the description of these bathtubs, Harrison shows something that although is still here, is part of the past and really does not have a life of its own anymore except just lying underneath the walnut tree. This is very much like a person whose thoughts ar e caught up in the past, because they, too, are still trying to live something that is over and then lose purpose in the present. Harrison also relates these bathtubs twice to sheep, which are commonly viewed as animals that follow each other, never really having a choice or idea of their own.

Study of inclusive learning analysis

Lord Sandy Leitch was commissioned by the authorities in 2004 to transport out an independent reappraisal of the long-run accomplishments that the United Kingdom would necessitate to accomplish maximal growing, productiveness and societal justness by 2020. The reappraisal identified that the UK was dawdling behind in the accomplishments market compared to other states such as USA, Canada and South Korea. This is mostly due to the fact that in the past chances to derive accomplishments has been elitist in that merely those who can afford to come on educationally to derive accomplishments have done so, this has meant that people have non been given the chances to make their full potency. More than a 3rd of working grownups have non achieved even the basic makings ensuing in a big proportion lacking in basic accomplishments – numeracy and literacy. The imperativeness release from the authorities summarises the Leitch study as saying that out of 30 Organisation for economic co-operation and development ( OECD ) states, the UK is 17th on low accomplishments, 20th on intermediate accomplishments and 11th on high accomplishments. Five million grownups in the UK lack functional literacy which is represented as a degree 1 making and 17 m illion grownups have trouble with Numberss. It besides stated that more than one in six immature people leave school unable to read, compose or add up decently. A extremely skilled work force is indispensable to the state ‘s economic growing to enable it to run into the demands of the consumer. The benefits for the person will intend higher incomes and raise aspirations, for employers it a greater accent on vocational accomplishments Lord Leitch concludes: â€Å" Skills were one time a cardinal lever for prosperity and equity. Skills are now progressively the cardinal lever. † Sir Andrew Foster was asked to transport out a reappraisal of the future function of Further Education colleges in 2004. The reappraisal identified that some strengths within his study such as a committed and professional work force, a strong committedness to inclusion, a diverseness of classs already provided. On the other manus many failings were highlighted such as jobs with the degree of makings and accomplishments, image & A ; repute through underperformance although this was pointed out that it merely affected 4 % of the proviso, conflicts between FE colleges, the LSC and the DfES, there were excessively many organic structures inspecting, reding and regulation and excessively many pupils do non accomplish the making on the class that they enrol, in drumhead that they are non gaining their full potency. The recommendations were to hold a greater accent on vocational classs, those that end with a making so that they can be used within the work force. Local employers need to be consulted on what skills they require their work force to hold so that the classs offered are relevant to the local community. Another recommendation is that any reviews should hold a lighter attack ; colleges should non being inundated with inspectors. Evaluation involves the systematic finding of the quality, value or importance of things. In the context of the third instruction reforms, the acceptance of an appraising attack means a direct focal point on ‘valued results ‘ and ‘key lending procedures ‘ . It is of import that the elements of the rating model are clearly identified and that the model and elements are consistent and practical. A important facet of the third reforms is that a common model for quality confidence will use across the sector. There will, nevertheless, be fluctuations in the appraising methods, tools and attacks used in sub-sectors. The purpose is to hold a flexible attack, antiphonal to the demands of the sub-sector, without compromising the unity and utility of the overall rating procedure and findings. Principles and cardinal characteristics of self-assessment and external rating and reappraisal are reciprocally reenforcing and support improved results for scholars. The cardinal characteristics provide illustrations of what the rules could look like in pattern. Evaluation inquiries guide the way and purpose of the rating procedure. ( Evaluation inquiries are open-ended inquiries about quality, value or importance, for illustration: How effectual is the learning? How good do programmes and activities meet the demands and aspirations of scholars? ) Evaluation indexs identify the ‘valued results ‘ and the ‘key procedures ‘ likely to lend to them, every bit good as placing what the grounds for these might look like. They besides signal possible causal relationships. Evaluation indexs are supported by research, and sector and bureau experience, about what works. This paper deals specifically with the first component of the model – the rules. There will be audience on the other elements as work progresses in these countries.Overarching rules of new quality confidenceThe undermentioned rules underpin the new attack to quality confidence. 1. The primary duty for quality and betterment prevarications with single TEOs. Therefore self-assessment should be embedded in TEOs ‘ modus operandi planning, operational and concern activities. 2. It is intended that the rating model provides a common footing for quality confidence across the third sector. 3. The focal point for quality confidence will be on the quality of larning which is considered to be the combined consequence of the quality of the acquisition experience ( including learning ) and the value of the results achieved. This is illustrated in Figure 2. The quality of the acquisition experience The quality of larning = + The value of the results achieved Figure 2 – The focal point on acquisition and instruction 4. While concentrating on the quality of acquisition, conformity with the regulative agreements remains of import. TEOs will still be required to show that they comply with relevant statute law and ordinances. Figure 3 shows the relationship between results, cardinal procedures act uponing results and conformity with the regulative agreements. The methods of accomplishing desired results vary depending on context. There is no ‘one right manner ‘ and TEOs are encouraged to be advanced and flexible in response to local fortunes, within the restraints of the regulative agreements.ResultsEvidence of TEO part to: scholar results ( accomplishment and advancement ) TEO degree results system degree resultsConformity with Regulatory AgreementsEvidence of TEOs run intoing legislative and regulative demandsKey Processes Influencing OutcomesEvidence of TEO internal systems and procedures for: demands designation at scholar, employer, regional and national degrees quality betterment ( sing grounds of both procedure and result ) Figure 3: The relationship between results, cardinal procedures and conformity 5. The quality confidence system will recognize and reflect the typical parts of TEOs including specific acknowledgment of the nature and functions of MA?ori suppliers such as wA?nanga. A This means that within the rating model there will be different tools and procedures developed for different types of TEOs. It is intended that the new quality confidence system will back up the overall construct of high trust and high answerability. There is besides an outlook that those facets of the current system that are already working good will be retained and enhanced. It is intended that TEOs can go on to utilize their ain systems and processes where these back up the purposes of the move to an rating methodological analysis. The undermentioned subdivisions outline in more item the rules of the self-assessment, and external rating and reappraisal constituents of quality confidence.Self-assessment‘Self-assessment ‘ ( or ‘self-evaluation ‘ or ‘self-review ‘ ) here refers to the procedures a TEO uses to set up grounds of its ain effectivity.
